On Halal Food

As I've mentioned before, a quick check of supermarket ads in the newspapers does not reveal any differences between halal and non-halal slaughtered meat. So from inference, I can see that either there's no cost difference between the two types of slaughter, or it's minimal enough for the slaughterhouse and the retailers to absorb.
Besides, most if not all halal meat found on the market are slaughtered at certified Islamic slaughterhouses which are mainly run by Muslims anyway. There are no special requirements to be able to slaughter an animal in the halal manner, except that the person has to be Muslim, that's all. I could slaughter an animal myself if someone were to give me a sharp knife and a short lesson on how to properly slit the jugular vein.
I seriously doubt that this would lead to an increase in costs. Except, as I mentioned earlier, admin costs of inspection and paperwork.. which is pretty routine stuff, actually. And I as said earlier, it seems to be a small portion of overall costs... at least small enough to be easily absorbed.

No go here. Anything which can intoxicate the mind is prohibited, and that includes alcohol and illicit drugs. As the following verse goes:

Of course, this does complicate things somewhat, considering that are several substances and food essences which do contain alcohol. It's not just about abstaining from drinking alcohol - it's also about abstaining from consuming it in any way. That's part of the reason why I stay away from food stalls which proudly label 'no pork, no lard' but without a valid halal certificate from MUIS. For all I know they could be using alcohol in the marinate for the meat (which was what I discovered with a certain restaurant in town several years ago). In addition, absence of pork and its byproducts still doesn't account for the requirement that all meat must be slaughtered the Islamic way.

At the same time, though, it would be frowned upon to wear a singlet if you have more appropriate clothes to wear. If you can dress up for going out, surely you can at least wear a proper shirt for prayers. -
i still think it's improper to wear singlet for prayer in a mosque.
A mosque is the god's house. Respect is required. Properly attired is advice.

As for me, I just follow the majority viewpoint that crustaceans are alright based on the following verse, which makes states that 'the produce of the sea' is lawful:
To hunt and to eat the food of the sea is made lawful for you, a provision for you and the seafarersÂ…
